The goal I set and I tried my best to achieve would be speaking English fluently. Basically, you can understand my target by words, which is speaking English with good fluency.
This goal was set last year because I needed to attend several face-to-face interviews after I graduated from my university. Great speaking is absolutely essential for an interviewee; therefore, my speaking needs to be improved as soon as possible, cuz I am already in the last year of my university.
I have googled “how to improve my speaking” online and asked my professors in English department for a bit of advice, here are several strategies that I think are really useful. Firstly, practicing is quite important. No matter how good my grammar is or how many words I can remember, it means nothing if I cannot use them appropriately and effectively. All I have to do is to use the words I know to create different sentences and repeat this process again and again.
Secondly, I have imitated native speaker’s expression before I can say the sentences correctly. It sounds simple but many beginners tend to skip this step. As a result, they could not improve their speaking due to a lack of ideas about what native English should sound like. I love watching English dramas and TV series, like Friends and Big Bang Theory, so I always repeat the characters’ lines and do it over and over again until I can repeat them smoothly.
Finally, don’t be shy if the mistakes bump out. In other words, making mistakes is ok, Thus, I felt much better and confident when I speak with others in English after I forgot about the awkwardness.
In terms of my feelings, I thought this process will be significantly difficult but actually, it isn’t. I was super embarrassed at the beginning, especially when I made a mistake. Later, I can say a sentence without any hesitation, it made me feel extremely satisfied and gave me a great sense of achievement.
